Accessibility.

#NotWaiting is part of Opportunity Africa, run by Africa No Filter (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa. We want everyone, including people using assistive technology, to be able to read the manifesto, explore the stories and make a post. This page explains our commitment, what we have done, and how to tell us if something does not work.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, and the requirements of the European Accessibility Act. This is an ongoing effort: we treat accessibility as something we keep improving, not a box ticked once.

What we have done

  • Semantic HTML, so headings, lists, buttons and links are marked up as what they actually are, for screen readers and other assistive technology.
  • Keyboard navigation for the whole site, including the post maker, the manifesto form and the menus, with no mouse-only interactions.
  • Visible keyboard focus on every interactive element, so you can always see where you are.
  • Colour-contrast targetsset to meet WCAG 2.1 AA across the site’s text and interface colours.
  • Captions and a transcript for video content, so it is usable without sound.
  • Whole-site translation, with English and French hand-translated, and other languages available through Google Translate, see our Privacy Policy.
  • A “Skip to content” link at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users.

Known limitations

The main known limitation is machine translation: content translated by Google Translate is machine-generated and may not always read perfectly with a screen reader; the native English and French pages do not have this limitation.

Reporting a problem

If you hit an accessibility problem anywhere on this site, tell us and we will look into it. Email communications@africanofilter.org with what you were trying to do, the page you were on, and, if you can, the device or assistive technology you were using. If you email us directly, we use your message and address only to reply to you.

Changes to this statement

We may update this page as the site changes. The date at the top always shows when it was last reviewed.
